Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven
作詞者はスコットランドの牧師ヘンリー・フランシス・ライト(Henry Francis Lyte,1793-1847)です。彼は若くして両親を亡くしましたが、アイルランド最古の大学であるダブリンのトリニティ・カレッジ(Trinity College, Dublin)に学び、詩作で頭角を表しました。　1815年彼は教職に任ぜられ、アイルランドや英国西部の教区で奉職しましたが、人生の大部分を英国南部の州、デヴォンシャーのオール・セインツ・チャーチ（All Saints Church）で牧師として過ごしました。彼は二冊の信仰的な著作を残しましたが、この詞はその内の一つです。（The Cyber Hymnalより）
