		作詞者であるElizabeth P. Prentiss(1818-1878)は1856年、38歳のとき、病気療養中にこの詞を書きましたが、13年間手許にとどめていました。その13年後、この作品を夫に見せたところ、夫はぜひ公けにするようにと薦めてくれました。作曲者のWilliam H. Doane (1832-1915)が、その作品を知り、その翌年の1870年に作曲をしました。 （The Cyber Hymnal http://www.cyberhymnal.org/index.htm#lk  より引用：管理人訳）
