作詞者のFrances Ridley Havergalは英国の讃美歌史に輝く光でしたが薄命でした。彼女は４歳で読書を始め、７歳で讃美歌詞を作りはじめました。ラテン語、ギリシャ語、ヘブル語を学び、詩編や、イザヤ書そして新約聖書の大半を記憶していました。そして４２歳６ヶ月で天に召されました。　　(Cyber Hymnalより)
