作詞、作曲とも米国コネティカット州ハートフォード南組合教会の牧師やコネティカット州議会つきチャプレンを務めたエドウィン・パーカー(Edwin
Pond Parker, 1836-1920)です。かれは説教を閉じるにあっての讃美歌としてこれを作りました。 その他、讃美歌作品としては組合教会讃美歌(the
Congregational Book of Praise, 1874)や下記のような作品が残されています。（The Cyber Hymnalより）
